The sound of silence

Do you hear that?? Since you're on the other end of a computer I'm sure what you hear is silence on my end... and guess what? So do I!!! Blissful silence. Both boys are down for a nap, at the same time and I have a little bit of time for myself. Me time! I forgot how lovely it was.

Since being back up north Oliver, my wonderful sleeper, has decided that he will still sleep but only after he fights us every step of the way to get there. He also figured out he could get out of his crib by basically throwing himself over the rail. In worry for his neck and not wanting him to break it, we took the mattress out of it and put it on the floor till his big boy bed arrived on sealift. He loves the new bed but we have to sit with him untill he falls asleep which is difficult when I'm home alone and Isaac is fussing. I'm sure much of this is in reaction to Isaac joining the family. I'm hoping it will pass soon and he'll go back to his blissfully cooperative self.

Isaac has settled into being home and is doing well. My only complaint is that he eats, for a long time. O was never a big eater and along with sleeping many hours at a time since day one, when he did get up to eat I was usually back in bed in less than 30 minutes. With Isaac feeding takes about an hour or so each time and he likes to eat every 3 hours so my sleep time is greatly diminished. I know this is what a normal baby does so I can't really complain. O just spoiled me so I didn't really have a concept of what a normal baby was like.

So over all, I'm tired but am getting into a routine. I do have to give some major props to my husband who has been wonderful through this whole process. Nick is a great dad but has always left the dirty parenting to me. Since Isaac arrived he's really stepped up and has made my load so much lighter. I know I couldn't do it without him.

So untill I get another few minutes to myself, I leave you with some cute pictures.

My nephew Erik would be green with envy.

Just like mom

If Oliver is all Nick, it seems Isaac is very much me. See for yourself....

Me

PS:
We just got home yesterday and are trying to get settled back into our lives. After 2 months of Nick being on his own without me to keep house and a relief member living in our place while he was gone, the house needs alot of work. Not to mention finding room for all the stuff we brought back and making room for our sealift that's arriving this weekend. And oh yeah, getting used to taking care of 2 kids.... What I'm trying to say is that I'll be back soon. I'm hoping you'll put up with a little more of my absence while I get my life together. And I hope you'll forgive me for being behind on reading your blogs too. There just isn't enough hours in the day at the moment. Thank you for your understanding.

Eviction Day?

Well it's finally here. My due date. Unfortunately this baby is cozy and comfy in there and is showing no signs of his intention to join us in the outside world. I'm finding this a little hard to deal with because I'm the type of person that when I want something, I want it now and at the moment I'm not getting my way. Since Oliver was early, I fully expected this one to be early too and am getting rather annoyed at his having his own mind on the subject.

Truth be told, today's due date is the one calculated by the ultrasound I had early on in the pregnancy. My actual due date (calculated by my and Nick's much more accurate knowledge on the subject) is sometime this coming weekend. The 25th or 26th I would say. Knowing that you'd think I'd me a bit more patient. Since I'm not sleeping well at all, spending more time in the bathroom than out and am just so completely uncomfortable, I'm going with the ultrasound and saying that today is the day baby.... time to get out!

My weekly pregnancy email says that 75% of babies are born past their due dates so I wouldn't be at all surprised if this goes on well into next week. I'll keep you posted.

Just Thoughts

I have really been enjoying parenting lately. I've mentioned it before but the changes in Oliver in the last 8 weeks amaze me to the point that I don't even know where to start. To get to the point, he's gone from Baby to a Little Boy. He's is flirty, funny and charming. He's talking up a storm and you can actually understand him 78% of the time. He says Hello to everyone, everywhere we go and he won't let up till you say hello back to him. When someone leaves our house he'll run to the window to watch them walk the parking lot. Then he'll call goodbye to their car till he can't see it anymore. He's is full of hugs and kisses for everyone. And he's the most laid back kid ever. Nothing rattles him, he just moves on to something else rather than make a fuss about anything. I'm sure all these things are much more endearing to me than they are to anyone else outside our immediate family but if you're also a parent, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm starting to really understand why people enjoy their kids so much. I get loving them, but enjoying them because of the people they are becoming is something I don't think I really got until now.

Now if this other kid would just show up already so I can enjoy him too. Due Monday...

Photos of this week

This past week has been a busy one with Nick arriving in Saint John on Tuesday afternoon as well as another visitor you may recognise. Jen, Nathan and Ezri are on a east coast road trip to visit some friends and they stayed with us for a few days on their way through. It was great to see them again and the kids had such a good time playing together.

I took advantage of my friend the photographer and asked if she would kindly take some shots of my family while she was here. As always, Jen was happy to do so. Here are just a few of the hilights.

Thanks Jen! It was great to see you guys.

Guck!!!

I was in the kitchen the other day and heard a desperate call of 'Guck'!!! In Oliver language that could mean Truck, Duck, Yuck... you get it. Depending on the context of what he's doing it's usually pretty easy to figure out which one he means at the time. When you hear it in this particular desperate tone, it means I'm STUCK!

I quickly went into the living room where the call came from and this is what I found. He didn't quite have enough leverage either way to get him self out of this position. So what did I do?? Make him stay there, went to get the camera and took 5 or 6 shots before I helped him out. Sorry O, it was too cute not to get on film.
