My Poor Baby

We are still in Pang due to a number of the usual northern travel issues. Weather, broken planes etc, etc. We're hoping to get out tomorrow, only 2 days late, and I'm feeling like it IS going to happen. This crap can only go on so long right? I'm not going to complain about it or bother telling you the story because it's always the same story in the end. Living in the north is great till you try to leave, because you can't. Or not on time anyway. Enough said.

So, I thought I'd share the latest pictures of my poor little man who is suffering from some skin issues. It's been going on a while and am pretty sure it started as nothing more than dry skin that seemed to get much worse when the weather finally turned cold. Then we noticed that it seemed worse in the mornings than later in the day. In the last couple of days I've pretty much deduced that 75% of the problem is that he scratches himself through the night and wakes up a scabby mess. I do my best to keep his nails short but it doesn't seem to help. His nails are not at all what I think are typical baby nails. They are beautifully shaped, strong and thick, so they are weapons.

Last night I put him to bed with socks on his hands so he can't do any more damage. I've bandaged his face with some ointment to try and heal up the worst part. I'm hoping these measures along with the warmer weather (if we ever get to it) will get the problem to a manageable level. I just feel so bad looking at him today cause he looks like he's been through a shredder. On the bright side, the socks are also keeping his thumb out of his mouth which is something else he's picked up in the last few weeks.

Poor little man....

Oh...Poor little man...but I have to say he looks just like my BFF's little guy did at that age...allergic to dairy and soy...she had to feed him alimentum. Just a thought...

Poor little guy! (He still looks so sweet!) And sorry to hear about the delays in travel. It will worth the wait once you're in a warm and sunny clime!

Thanks for the suggestions Deanna but he's exclusively breast fed. I've tried him on formula a couple or three times but it was a long time ago so unless he's alergic to me, that's not it. He can't be alergic to me can he?

You know I share in your hatred of northern travel.....

Poor little guys....Hanna had skin issues as a baby ( and still does) but hers is excema....we finally figures out that that was why she was sleeping so horribly, because she was so itchy. The one lotion that we use is Galaxal Base, and that was what was recommended by a dematologist....worked for us, maybe worth a try? Hope you find something that works for you!!

And I HOPE HOPE HOPE you get out tomorrow!!!!!

Poor little guy, he seems happy though. I sure it all turns around tomorrow and let you out!

He might still have an allergy or sensitivity to something that is coming through in your breastmilk. When my youngest started to look like he was getting colicky I stopped drinking dairy for awhile, and it seemed to help. But you'd think that would have shown up already.

It looks like excema to me, or did you maybe start using a new type of detergent on the sheets? My son just had a horrible rash on his face for about a week before we figured out it was the new detergent my Mom used on the sheets he slept on at their house.

Hopefully you find a solution and he feels better soon!

We haven't changed anything so I don't think it's detergent. And wouldn't that affect his whole body not just his face?

The health center said excema too but didn't have too many suggestions for fixing it. If it's still bad at the end of the month I'll take him to a clinic on our way back from Florida. I hope it's not an allergy... but again... wouldn't that show up on more than his face?

Ez had a random attack last winter that the Doc said was just excema. It was only on her shoulders....it made no sense. We used the special excema cream and changed the detergent that we had been using for a year and by the summer it cleared up and hasn't returned. It made NO sense at all. Random. Babies are weird and have weird skin. Poor little man. Hope Florida makes it better...P.S I hope your on a plane right now!
