The door to the blues

I've had a serious case of the blah's lately. It seems like every day is the same, and every day is boring. I am grasping at straws for things to blog about which I'm sure you've noticed. My housework, which isn't my best event anyway, is piling up cause I don't have the energy to do much but the minimum necessities.

Adding to the blues is the frustration of having a busy 13 month old. Why, WHY does he insist on opening the door 80 times a day when I clearly tell him no every time. I've done everything I know to get him to stop and all he does is smile at me and do it again. If the door didn't lead to the bathroom where he is obsessed with the toilet I'd let him play with it but playing in the toilet is just not cool. Unfortunately the door we have, and the toilet are not built for the standard baby proofing mechanisms and I haven't been able to come up with any brilliant makeshift ideas. Duct tape doesn't work well on doors. I guess if I was going to be here longer I would put a hook on it. I just thought of that. Note to self: get some for the new house..... Now I'm babbling.

Anyway, I know this is normal for kids this age but wow is it frustrating. I've done a good job of baby proofing the rest of the house and he has the run of it. I just don't understand why he insists on doing the one thing I don't want him to do. Welcome to parenting huh?

I love my son, I love my son, I love my son..... but being a parent is hard sometimes!

I totally feel for you!

When Hunter was that age he was obsessed with the glass cabinets we keep our carvings in. It took two weeks where everytime he touched them we smacked his hands, said no, and placed him in a corner. TWO WEEKS and about 20 TIMES a day. It was so annoying. But after that he never bothered with them.... until this week. Cavan has discovered that banging toys against the cabinets makes some fun noises. And now Hunter is back at it. So now it is two hands being smacked, a lot of yelling no and pushing them both away!!! Uggggg!! Cavan is doing this so much earlier than Hunter ever did and I assume it is because Hunter is teaching it all to him. I have no clue how I am going to survive!!!

There are days when I pretty much have to put myself in time out before I freak out at the boys, especially Hunter. He is learning how to push our buttons and he is throwing tantrums like a pro. Fun times!!!! I would turn to booze if I wasn't still breastfeeding! heheheheheh

I have been there and it is extremely frustrating! I am not sure what to suggest. Maybe a baby gate? Or something like this:

Arctic Ventures in Iqaluit has some if you know someone coming through town.

And I hear you about the housework. Sometimes I am fine with the bare minimum. But sometimes it just adds to the chaos and feels overwhelming.

Hang in there!

Ok just know I'm in frustration town with you! It sounds like you need some mommy time! Time to get out for a snowmobile trip! Or you could just take another trip out....we could take you to the spa? :)

There are days when Corey gets home that I am so cranky from dealing with the kids all day that i'm sure he wished he had stayed at work!!! Parenting is very rewarding, but it is also very frustrating!!! Hanna is getting into everything (although thankfully she has ended her obsession with the toilet!) and Paige throws tantrums equal to what I have seen on Nanny 911. And I do think the frustration is compounded when you don't really have any place to go - you feel housebound, and so do they!!! (as amusing as I may think I am, after a couple of days of not leaving the house the girls sure don't seem to find me amusing!!!)

I don't really have any advice (if I did, I would sure try it!!!) but I feel your pain!!!

he can open doors? he is either tall enough or your door knobs are really short! :) what kind are your doors? the lever kind?

Aida Oliver isn't overly tall, 50th percentile so he's average. The doors are lever handles though so they are easy to open if he gets his little fingers over the edge. He's right up on his tippy toes. It would be really cute if it wasn't so annoying.

morena, we used to have this

i love it! our doors in Arviat are the lever kind too and it is annoying. you need to take apart the lever handle but it was easy peasy to install. we dont need them here since all the door are the knob kind but if you are dropping by here, lmk and i can give them to you.

Thanks so much for trying to help... the only problem is we bought them and they don't fit on the doors. Our doors are 'industrial size' and the part around the levers is too big. Oh well, we'll be moving in a month and we'll have a whole new set of baby proofing problems to worry about. Thanks again though.
