Television Dilemma
This post goes out to any readers in Pang. I need your help, please!
In preparation for the move we've been in touch with the people who's house we are moving into. We were told that our Star Choice satellite would not work in Pang (because of the mountains we wouldn't get a signal) so we'll have to get regular cable. Then the other day I was having a conversation with someone here and mentioned it and was told that satellite is indeed available in my new home town. AND that the reception in the area of the Northern store is the best in town. We're going to be living right by the Northern! He even gave me the name and number of the person who could hook up my dish for me.
So my dilemma is who to believe. We've already cancelled our Star Choice because they require 30 days notice but now I'm wondering if I should cancel the cancellation. Please, tell me who's right so I can figure out what to do. As sad as it is, TV is too important to me to be without.

It's okay, I would die without my internet.
I think the problem is mainly because it's not consistant; I do, however, think it's possible. I know some people do (people in the government housing aren't allowed to put up satellites, but I see them around). I'll ask around tomorrow and get back to you.
...and, yes, tv is essential. I went without it for about 2 months when I first got here.
...but...I've also gained quite a bit of weight in front of the tv and in the kitchen!
I haven't seen a dish in town, if you can get a star choice dish to work in town you would be a god, cable is not to bad specially with a TiVo its not satelite but doable.
dont know about Pang but I would call Starchoice and tell them you request a "moving suspension", there is no cost for reconnection or to disconnect temporarily, well for Bell anyways but i dont think there will be any difference with SC. thing is, if starchoice DOES work in Pang, you have to go through all the hassle of signing up though sometimes it might be a bad idea since you get new customer bonus, etc. i went through 2 months with no satelite, it was hard!
and i would totally bring your dish to Pang!

I'd see if you can get the member to coming into Dorset to 'buy' your star choice... there is no satellites in Pang...
Cable is good.. and maybe the member leaving Pang will let you buy/leave their TiVo for you... (I became addicted to my friend's TiVo..it was awesome!!)...
but the dish won't work in Pangnirtung!!!

Thanks for the feedback. We did actually buy Lisa's Tivo so we are set on that front then we were told satelite was available and it threw off our plans.
Not that I don't believe it when we were told there was no satelite but the guy here says he had it when he lived there. Then I didn't know what to think.
To be honest, as long as I have tv I don't care I would just hate to sell our brand new expensive DVR if we could use it. We'd have to order a new dish anyway cause the one here belongs to the house, not to us. So far it's 3 against one on the no side so I'm going to assume the guy here is wrong or that things have changed since he was there.
